The Great American Jukebox Documentary
by Ed Liss & Andrew Stein

Ed Liss, a world-class authority and collector of jukeboxes, joins with documentary filmmaker Andrew Stein to produce a definitive history, "The Great American Jukebox." which highlights the musical periods during which jukeboxes were a large part of American culture including Jazz, Big Band, Rhythm and Blues and early Rock and Roll.

One of the most underserved segments of our society are seniors. We tend to forget about them, and especially the people suffering from dementia and Alzheimers fall through the cracks.

In recent years music therapy for seniors has become a standard therapy for dementia because we have learned that even though people suffering from this illness have problems recalling the recent events in their lives, the past can be clear as a bell.

The American jukebox, a staple of life for many years have disappeared from our society. The distinct sound of a vinyl record from a vintage jukebox lay dormant in the memories of seniors.

The Great American Jukebox project is like a time machine to the past. Listeners respond to the visuals of the jukeboxes and the music, hearing it exactly the way they heard it so many years ago. The unique sound from a Wurlitzer jukebox touches the person's soul, as it stimulates the mind with positive memories and feelings. It’s like an Oasis of happiness, a few moments of feeling young again, the feeling of love while dancing cheek to cheek, the jukebox opens a treasure chest of emotions, a gift like no other.

Ed Liss has been a music historian and a jukebox collector/restorer since 1975. A New York City native, Ed was drawn to all types of music as a child and in his adult years he was able to associate with famous professional musicians who played with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Paul McCartney, The New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Harry Connick, Jr., Nelson Riddle, and a host of others. He has restored 19 vintage jukeboxes dating from 1936 to 1979. Each machine plays the precise music of its era and is 100% authentic. Ed is a retired IT CEO who spent 46 years developing on-line systems using proprietary Artificial Intelligence software used by Fortune 100 companies. Ed has 2 MBA's from Baruch College.
